What travel tips should I know if this is my first trip to China?
If you are traveling to China for the first time, here are a few things to consider in advance:
- Visa: Check whether you need a business visa to enter China. BioCentury and BayHelix can provide a visa invitation letter upon request. For more details, visit our Hotel & Travel Information page.
- WeChat: Consider downloading the WeChat app before you travel. Most business communication in China is done via WeChat rather than email. It is also a common way to exchange electronic business cards onsite at the conference, as many professionals in China do not carry paper business cards.
- Ride-hailing: Consider downloading the Didi app in advance of traveling, as Uber is not available in China. Didi has an English-language interface and allows you to book taxis and cars and pay in a similar way to Uber.
- Mobile payments: Consider signing up for a mobile payment app such as WeChat Pay or Alipay prior to arriving in China. Many merchants in China do not accept cash or non-Chinese credit cards. Mobile payment apps are used by nearly everyone in China for everyday purchases.
Please note that these are suggestions only. You may wish to consult with your company's IT or security team regarding any policies related to downloading apps on your devices.
